The improved version of Aakash Tablet is finally seeing it’s launch soon in coming days. Union Minister, Kapil Sibal has unveiled Aakash 2 Tablet, at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay. The new generation of this tablet is highly anticipated, as initial version of Aakash Tablet was a biggest flop show by Indian Government. It was developed by Data Wind, which is still incorporated in the second generation Tablet Project.
The Monday’s event, where Aakash 2 Tablet seen it’s first public showcase, was a formal event, rather than last year’s media event. The tablet got viewed by more than 80 attendees who were present at the event, including I.I.T Bombay Teachers and other Staff, and over 9,000 college teachers also viewed the tablet through the live video conferencing. All of the four engineering colleges was given 1 tablet each, from the about 100 total Aakash Tablets owned by I.I.T. Bombay. Worth mentioning here, that I.I.T. Bombay is directly involved in the project ‘Aakash 2′, who tool the project from IIT Jodhpur, around 3 months ago. IITB has reportedly developed various apps to enhance the overall functionality of the tablet.
Aakash 2 is a great upgrade over original Tablet. It has got 800MHz processor, which was just 366 MHz in initial version of the tablet. There is a better 3,200 mAh battery, which is upgrade over existing 2,000 mAh battery, so you can surely expect good backup from battery now. As you might aware, original tablet was featured with resistive touchscreen, which is now replaced with far better capacitive touch screen. IIT-B would be distributing Aakash 2, and reportedly tablet would be launched in early month, probably first week of July. In the first phase, 250 engineering colleges would be dispatched Aakash 2 Units. Datawind, has promised to deliver over 100,000 units of Aakash 2 Tablets, in between the time period of 6 months. According to the reports, Deepak B. Phatak, In-charge of Aakash Project, I.I.T. Bombay expects that they would able to get few thousand units of Aakash 2 Tablets by the end of month July. This time, Government will first test tablets in Laboratory, probably few batches, and also sending to over 168 colleges for getting feedback about the performance of Aakash 2 Tablet.
